HOME ALONE IN THE AFTERNOON
Murali went to office after a long time. And I did not have any crushing errand to run and so sent Raju with him. Then I told the maid not to come. I had the entire house to myself. πππ Of course one is never free of ringing bells, mobile tones and so there was the courier guy, another person who wanted a signature and so on. But I had the house to myself in the daytime. The light flowed in from all the windows, with greenery all around.
It is not I do not notice this on other days. I am sane most of the time, thanks to this ambience. But you see, when you are alone, stretched out, with the birds chirping, a steaming cup of your favourite tea at hand and a serial on your favouritest person on TV, then your day is made.
I was watching a serial called `Reacher'. based on the character Jack Reacher, the lead hero of Lee Child. Reacher has several charms, including the fact that he only carries a toothbrush with him, walks the distance most of the time, and advices that you must eat when you can (love that) and sleep when you can. Since he was with the US Army, he knows his guns and each novel has clear detailing about these kill machines. Reacher also gives details about how to fight when caught in a situation.
You get the drift, don't you? That life was good and the rainbow was across my shoulder. This kind of time for yourself, doing nothing and having a peaceful moment with yourself is very nurturing, at least for me. It has nothing to do with Murali. He is perpetually on Zoom calls or doing his work, till it is time for us to do binge TV watching.
The other bonus point of this free time during the day is when you do not have to lay the table for lunch. A simple meal everyday, but it is a process. Today I simply had a phulka with a little bit of Kholapuri jaggery and a spot of ghee. I rolled it, stretched out and enjoyed every bite.
Incidentally, this used to be the snack after school time at Rajkot. Then I could probably have two of them, with more jaggery and more ghee. In Gujarat we used to call it ghee-god-rotli. Delicious memories. I used to get my share of deep fried delights, but the above was a staple.
The afternoon passed on quick and thank you, I had a nice time. And the season one of Reacher also got over. Nice day.
I look forward to your writings....
