NOT THE TALLEST PEAK BUT THE BEST VIEW I had left the phone in the van, more because I had to use both my hands to clamber on to the bus and while getting off the bus. Left the phone in the van because the tension of taking the roller coaster ride with Bruno and then trekking the rest was top of the mind. Don't mind if there is lot of writing from me today. While you all think yours truly is ensconced in the wood smoke smelling log cabin, eyeing the peaks of tall snow clad mountains, rising high over tall trees, pine trees and evergreens, you are all absolutely correct. Hey, but good times last only so long. For, as I mentioned earlier, Matina has planned our trip. So, I woke up early and puttered around and we had breakfast and she mentioned that we were going to Eggishorn, one of those tall peaks with a glacier. Which is all very fine when you are in Switzerland, but no one else must be doing the three km trek to the van. Again in my case only a kilometer and some more, before I begged off and stopped at someone’s doorstep. Bruno brought the vehicle and I hopped in and it was a downhill road till the van. We then drove to Feish to take a very exciting closed, 8 seater Gondola ride up to Kuhboden, from where we took a larger gondola to go up to Eggishorn, which has a glacier and has the backside view of Jungfrau and a beautiful panaromic view of the Matterhorn. We spent a refreshing and sunny couple of hours decrying the fact that glaciers are disappearing fast, while sipping on coffee with Amaretto in it. Living the life really. Then we rode down and went to a self-service restaurant. Murali and I had a delish salad, which is weighed after you serve yourself with all the veggies, croutons and such. We also ordered for an open sandwich, bread with a lot of cheese. But I could not take the smell of the cheese. We packed it and the girl there gave us instructions on how to reheat it so that the cheese oozes. We returned to the parking place and then had the roller coaster ride near the cabin and then I walked alone on the narrow path on my own. This log cabin is 1970 meters above sea level. The help of the pantheon of gods was sought continuously. And they are helping. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
AJMER SHARIF DARGAH WITH DEVOTED CROWDS We drove into Ajmer to visit the Dargah. I had heard so much about it and sworn to visit it. The Governor saab indulged us. Higway No 8 was crowded and it goes right up to Ahmedabad via, Baroda, Surat and other places. Trucks, buses, cars and two wheelers abounded. Repair of highway is going on and so the siren whooped everywhere. At one toll booth one of the security guys would not allow us till we showed pass. He of course got a lesson in protocol. There is one dhaba famous for its 32 inch parantha, but we just had a sweet tea off a mud kulhad. And we reached Ajmer. Apart from the crowded roads, the highway is dotted with restaurants, dhabas, hotels, all along the way. Natural greenery but no agriculture because of lack of water. We had to go to Delhi Gate of the Dargah to be escorted and so we drove into the slimmest of roads with shops on either side. Shimmery stuff and had I walked I would have bought everything. It was dazzling ...
