MOVIES AND MORE SERIALS

I saw one movie and one serial one after the other. Unfortunately. The movie was Saani Kaayidam and the other was a serial called Mai. While the movie is a take off on the Kill Bill movies, is a hard core blood and gore film and revenge is its theme. Stark, with usage of rusty, old-fashioned arms, like swords, knives, axes, kerosene, etc. There is also some water boarding happening and all these violent scenes are stretched too much. While Keerthy Suresh looks her role, wearing some very good saris with matching blouses and hair meSSy just so, Selvaraghavan has lived his role, everything he does in slo-mo. His glasses add that much of misery to his role and that he wears shorts as part of the character in the film adds to the entire script.

Mai, again is something else. Running into several episodes, Sakshi Tanwar is the heroine of this serial. And she kills without any compunctions. She gives injections, gives IV injections, ties up guys most professionally, hurts them without creating wounds, covers her tracks like a professional and goes through the episodes with no expressions at all. Most of it is merciless revenge for her daughter's death.

Vigilantism is exciting at its own level and it lies deep seated in all our psyches and if allowed many of us would be out there feeling wronged and killing people. Luckily for us, most of us are law abiding and therefore these movies and serials are like magnets and we watch them and get some vicarious letting.

Saw Beast and though Vijay has lost weight, the less said the better. Except for one song, Halamithi Habibo, nothing else really gets to you. Watched a lot of Malayalam films and you come away feeling refreshed always. Having said that Telugu serial Gaalivanaa started off very well, but they took a deep breath and finished it off quickly. Well produced but you lose grip after some time. Production values have increased and performances by actors leaves you wanting to watch them some more.  They might be one-film wonders, but it leaves you happy and satisfied. All super heroes can now take a back seat except for Bachchan Saab.

By the way saw Jhund. What a movie. One of those motivational types and you can predict the next scene, but the camera work, and the performances by each actor is simply brilliant. Very touching and keeping it all together is Amitabh Bachchan. No heroics here but he walks through the role with great aplomb. Based on a true story, it is very inspirational.

In between attended an engagement ceremony. Everyone dresses up so well, while the youngsters look gorgeous, I notice that the ladies really turn out well. Subtle jewellery, fabulous saris and they enjoy dressing up. While I might have looked like a church mouse, I am loving these luxurious events because they are done with taste and expense. Somewhere deep inside me as I watch, I feel like an outsider and am resentful, but that has not stopped me from attending these functions, programmes, etc. That is worth introspecting.
